Our keys used to end up in three places: the kitchen counter, a coat pocket, and somewhere in the car. The rack by the door was empty because the hooks were the wrong shape for anything but coats.

This one is 13.8 in (35 cm) wide with a flat bamboo shelf across the top and eight hooks under it. Mail goes on the shelf. Keys, a leash, a tote, the umbrella strap go on the hooks. The shelf edge has a lip, so envelopes do not slide off when the door slams.

It sits 3.9 in (10 cm) off the wall, which is shallow enough that you do not brush it with your shoulder in a narrow hallway, and deep enough for a stack of letters.

Two ways to put it up. The adhesive pads go on tile, glass, painted drywall or a metal door, no drilling. Screws go into studs or a wooden door frame if you would rather not trust glue. Both sets come in the box.

Frame is powder coated metal, shelf is bamboo. The factory does not publish a weight rating for the rack, so I am not going to invent one. Treat the hooks as daily-carry hooks: keys, leash, a light bag. Not a coat rack.

Best for: the strip of wall beside the door, a rental where you cannot drill, or a mudroom that has hooks but nowhere to drop mail.

Not ideal for: textured or damp walls, where adhesive pads let go, or for hanging heavy winter coats and loaded backpacks.

How to choose: measure the wall strip beside the door. You need 14 in of width and 4 in of depth, plus a flat surface if you are going the adhesive route. If the strip is under 14 in, this rack will not sit level around a corner.

In the box: the rack with the bamboo shelf fitted, eight hooks, adhesive pads and screws. Use one mounting method, not both.
