Most shoe racks are a fixed box. If your opening is not that exact size, you get a gap or a rack that does not fit. This one is free-standing and expands from 17.7 in to 31.5 in wide, so you set it to the space you have.

It sits on the floor. Nothing is drilled, nothing is mounted. Assembly is about 3 minutes per the maker, with hand-tightened bolts. Three tiers, 5.6 in of clearance between them, 9.5 in deep and 17 in tall. The frame is metal with a coated finish, in Black, White, or Bronze.

Capacity changes with the width. Compact, it holds about 8 pairs of adult shoes. Pulled out fully, about 16 pairs. That fits sneakers, boots, heels, and flats. Good for an entryway, closet, mudroom, bedroom, hallway, or balcony.

Best for: Openings between 17.7 in and 31.5 in wide where you want shoe storage that is not a fixed-size box. Floor-standing spots where you would rather not drill.

Not ideal for: An opening narrower than 17.7 in. More than 100 lb on one rack. A floor that is sloped or very uneven.

How to choose: Measure the floor opening at its narrowest point. If it is between 17.7 in and 31.5 in, this rack fits. Check that the floor is level. The maker lists a 100 lb total load capacity. The maker does not publish a per-tier load rating, so we do not state one.

In the box: The rack frame and hand-tightened bolts. The maker does not publish a boxed shipping weight, so we do not state one.

Great for shoes, tight for big boots

The rack is well built and expands smoothly, but my husband's tall winter boots only really work on the top tier because of the tier clearance. Everything else fits fine. I'd still buy it again, just wanted to set expectations for tall footwear.

Month in, no rust or wobble

Put it in the garage entry where it gets damp and it's held up fine. Coating hasn't chipped, bolts stayed tight after I re-snugged them once. Holds ten pairs of shoes and boots at the medium setting. For $35 I'm not mad at all.

Good but rocks on sloped floor

I knew the listing warned about uneven floors and mine qualifies, so that's partly on me. It works but I have to nudge it back in place once in a while. On the flat part of my closet floor it's totally stable. Just be honest with yourself about your floor.

Adjustable width sold me

I've bought three fixed racks over the years that all left gaps. This one I just dialed to my exact opening and it looks built-in. Holds my sneakers and my daughter's shoes in the mudroom. Should've bought this style from the start.

Finally shoes off the hallway floor

Three tiers, nobody trips on shoes anymore. Fits right against the wall in our narrow hallway at about 24 inches wide. My husband put it together while I made dinner and it was done before the pasta. Simple and it works.

Solid but not a 100 lb rack

The frame is well made and the coating seems durable. I'd just keep in mind the 100 lb total is the ceiling, not a target. I loaded it heavy at first with everyone's work boots and you could feel it. Spread the weight out and it's been great since.

Bronze matches my closet hardware

I was worried the bronze would look tacky but it's a nice muted tone, close to my closet rods. Sits in the walk-in and holds my boots on the bottom, sneakers middle, flats top. The metal doesn't flex when I pull a pair out one-handed.

Fine rack but capacity varies

It does what it says, but I want to flag that at 17.7 inches you're really only getting about eight pairs, which for a family shoe pile isn't much. I ended up expanding it and it's better, but the compact number in the listing is accurate, not generous. Quality is good for the price otherwise.

Three minutes was accurate for me

I timed it out of curiosity and it was right around three minutes with the hand bolts. No tools, no swearing, no missing hardware. It's in my son's bedroom holding his sneakers and cleats and he can actually reach everything himself now.

Holds way more than I expected

Pulled it to full 31.5 inches and counted 16 pairs of my wife's shoes, mostly flats and heels. Feels surprisingly rigid for something that expands. I keep it on the balcony by the sliding door and it's handled a couple of rain-adjacent days without rust so far.

Nice rack, wish tiers were taller

The build quality is great and it fits under my closet shelf perfectly. My one note is the 5.6 inch clearance makes taller ankle boots a tight squeeze on the middle tier. They fit on top fine though. For regular shoes and sneakers it's a non-issue.

Entryway looks way less cluttered

Sixteen pairs when it's fully stretched out, which is exactly what our family of four needed. Before this we had shoes everywhere and a bench that was too small. Now everything's got a slot and the entry reads clean. The white version blends into the wall nicely.

Measure your narrowest point first

I got excited and ordered before measuring properly. My alcove is 16 inches at the tightest spot so it just barely doesn't fit the way I wanted, though I made it work in the closet instead. The rack is nice quality, no complaints there. Just do yourself a favor and check that narrowest measurement.

Bought a second one for the garage

Liked the first one so much in the hall closet that I grabbed another for the garage entry. Expanded both to full width and now I've got a spot for all our sneakers instead of the pile by the door. Assembly is genuinely quick, maybe three minutes once you know what you're doing.

Good, but my floor is uneven

The rack itself is solid and holds my kids' shoes fine in the mudroom. My only gripe is the floor in there slopes a little toward the drain and the rack rocks slightly. I folded a piece of cardboard under one leg and it's been fine since. If your floor is level you won't have this issue.

No drilling, exactly what I wanted

I rent and I'm not putting holes in anything. This just sits on the closet floor and does its job. Compact it fits my eight pairs of heels and sandals, and I can pull it wider when I rotate in winter boots. The bronze color actually looks decent in person, not cheap orange like I feared.

Sturdy enough for boots

Wasn't sure a $35 metal rack would hold my work boots but the bottom tier handles them fine. I've got three pairs of Red Wings down there and it hasn't bowed at all after a month. The coated finish wipes clean when they get muddy. Pulled it out to about 28 inches and it still feels solid.

Fits the weird gap by my door

I measured 22 inches at the base of my entryway nook and this slid in perfectly with room to spare. Holds my husband's size 12 sneakers and my flats without any wobble. Took me maybe five minutes to put together, not three, but I'm slow with bolts. Way better than the wire rack that used to tip over every time I grabbed a shoe.
